- Steven E. Bizar — a shareholder and co-chair of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Litigation Section — was recently appointed to serve as a reviewer in the Investigative Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention. The appointment is for a three-year term, ending December 31, 2012.

Prior to the event, each honoree was profiled in the November 27, 2009, edition of the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Gurwin, a shareholder in the Corporate Finance & Technology Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Pittsburgh office and Chair of the firm's Technology Transactions Group and its Entertainment and Media Law Group, was recently elected to serve as Chair of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Pittsburgh (also known as the Enterprise Forum Pittsburgh). A longtime member of the Forum's Board of Trustees, Gurwin will serve as Chair for a one-year term.

A 1988 graduate of the school and Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, Bizar was nominated by Columbia's dean, David M. Schizer, and appointed by the president and trustees of the university.
- Susan M. Dadio, a shareholder and chair of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Biotechnology group, was recently elected treasurer-elect for The Bar Association of the District of Columbia (BADC). In addition to her involvement with the BADC, Dadio was recently named chair of the Virginia State Bar's IP Law Section. Her role as chair became effective June 18, 2009.

The publication's rankings are based upon the recommendations of more than 10,000 clients and lawyers throughout the United States. Chambers USA researchers conduct thousands of interviews to obtain opinions about the lawyers and law firms the interviewees have dealt with over the past year. The leading law firms and attorneys are then compiled and ranked based on the comments in the interviews.

- Ellen Freeman, counsel in the Immigration Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Pittsburgh office, was recently elected president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Pittsburgh chapter. Freeman, who previously served as treasurer, will serve a one-year term.
- Margaret B. Angel, a shareholder in the Financial Services Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Pittsburgh office, was recently elected to serve as president of the Pennsylvania Association of Bond Lawyers. Angel, who previously served as vice president and treasurer prior to that, will serve a one-year term.
- Howard Scher, Wendy Newton, Bob Johnson and David Laurent were recently nominated, and subsequently accepted, to become Fellows of the American Bar Foundation. Scher practices in the Litigation Section at the firm's Philadelphia office. Newton also practices in the Litigation Section but with the firm's Pittsburgh office. While Johnson is a member of the Tax Section and Laurent is a member of the Labor and Employment Section, both also with the firm's Pittsburgh office.
- Barbara A. Binzak, Ph.D., an associate in the Food and Drug Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Washington, D.C., office, was recently appointed vice chair of the Update Editorial Advisory Board. Update, published six times per year, is a publication of the Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI).
- Litigation shareholder Francis (Frank) X. Taney, Jr., of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC, was recently elected to the Advisory Board of the American Society of Inventors (ASOI). As a member of the Advisory Board, Taney will help the ASOI fulfill its mission of providing programming, education and other assistance of use to inventors in protecting, licensing and commercializing their inventions.

- On May 21, 2009, Susan A. Yohe — a shareholder in the Litigation Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Pittsburgh office — will be honored with the Carol Los Mannsmann Helping Hand Award by the Allegheny County Bar Association's (ACBA) Women in the Law Division (WLD).

Uchimoto, a shareholder in the Corporate Finance & Technology Section and chair of the China Practice Group at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Philadelphia office, was recently named to The Legal Intelligencer's "Diversity Attorneys of the Year" 2009 list. The list was published in the paper's April 20, 2009, edition.
- Brian P. O'Shaughnessy, a shareholder in the Intellectual Property Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Alexandria office, was recently elected to Rochester Institute of Technology's Board of Trustees. Announced during RIT's April 2, 2009, board meeting, O'Shaughnessy joins 51 other active trustees.
- Craig G. Cochenour, a shareholder in the Intellectual Property Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Pittsburgh office, is this year's recipient of The Hugh C. Muldoon Memorial Lecture Award. The award was presented to Cochenour by the Rho Chi Society of the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy.
- Andrew J. Giorgione, a state government relations professional with Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Harrisburg office, was recently elected to a four-year term as a board member of the Smeal College of Business of Penn State University.
- Henry L. Kent-Smith, a shareholder in the Real Estate Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Princeton office, has been selected to receive the New Jersey Builders Association's (NJBA) Associates Committee Chairman's Award.
- Howard J. Wein, a shareholder in the Environmental Law Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Pittsburgh office, has been named the 2009 recipient of the Environmental Achievement Award presented annually by the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Environmental, Mineral and Natural Resources Law Section.
- Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is proud to announce that it has been selected by pro bono organization Philadelphia VIP as a 2008 Justice William J. Brennan, Jr., Award winner. The firm will be honored at VIP's upcoming awards ceremony and cocktail reception.
- Steven Bizar and Thomas Boyle were named 2009 BTI Client Service All-Stars for superior client service. Only 176 attorneys from North America, South America and Europe received this distinction from their clients.
- Litigation shareholder Frank X. Taney, Jr., chair of the Information Technology Litigation Practice Group and a member of the Technology Transactions Group, was named president-elect of the Entrepreneurs' Forum of Greater Philadelphia. His term will run from July 1, 2009, to June 30, 2010.
- Mark R. Hornak, a shareholder in the firm's Pittsburgh office, has been elected as an executive shareholder. There are three executive shareholders who, in addition to the CEO and CEO-elect, comprise the firm's Executive Committee. The Executive Committee steers the firm's management and strategic objectives. Hornak was elected to fill the seat left vacant when Jack Barbour was named CEO-elect.
- Keith Solar was recently nominated as a Top Influential. A Top Influential is "a person whose actions and opinions strongly influence your industry and our business community."
- Adrienne Garber was recently named one of Pittsburgh Magazine's "40 Under 40." The "40 Under 40" list is made up of young leaders in Western Pennsylvania who are under the age of 40.
- Jack Stover was recently elected chair of the Board of Directors of the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts.
Stover is completing his sixth year as a member of the Board of Directors of Whitaker Center, for which he has served as chairman of the Development Committee for several years. He was officially named chair at the organization's annual meeting on October 22, 2008. - John D. Goldsmith, a shareholder in the Corporate Finance & Technology practice at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Newark office, was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of the Northern New Jersey Maternal/Child Health Consortium. Goldsmith was elected on October 22 and will serve a three-year term as a member of the board.
- Patricia R. Lesser, a senior attorney in the Tax practice at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Washington, D.C., office, has been appointed to the Finance Committee of International Fiscal Association (IFA). Lesser's new position is with the central branch of IFA. She is also a member of the Council of the USA Branch of IFA.
- Rudolph "Rudy" Garcia, a shareholder in the Litigation practice of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, will become chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association in 2011. Garcia is unopposed and will be confirmed as vice chancellor this December, without an election.
- Rebecca Livingston Lando was recently elected to the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's Board of Trustees. As a member of the board, Lando serves on the Facilities Committee. In addition to her practice and her involvement with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Rebecca is on the board and provides pro bono legal services to other nonprofit and community organizations including the Make a Wish Foundation and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy.
- Sixty-nine Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney attorneys have been selected by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2009.
- Rosemary J. Bruno has been elected president of The Newark Museum Business & Community Council for the 2008-2009 term. The Museum Business Council comprises representatives from businesses, governmental entities and educational institutions located in the greater Newark area.
- Paul S. Quinn was recently named to Irish Voice Newspaper and Irish America Magazine's inaugural Irish Legal 100 list. The list is compiled of the most distinguished and accomplished lawyers of Irish descent in America. The Irish-American publications read by over 250,000 people for consideration. A special supplement naming the top 100 will be published and inserted in the September 15, 2008, issue of Irish America Magazine.
- Charles F. Wieland III was named to Nanotechnology Law & Business journal's Top Ten list. The list was published in the journal's Summer 2008 edition. Nanotechnology Law & Business (NLB) is a peer reviewed journal devoted to the legal, business and policy aspects of small-scale technologies. According to NLB, the Top Ten list "highlight[s] ten of the most influential IP lawyers in nanotechnology….
Francis X. Taney, Jr., has been named a 2008 Lawyer on the Fast Track by The Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly. Taney was one of 35 Pennsylvania attorneys selected as the future leaders of the state's legal community. The full list appeared in the August 6, 2008, edition of The Legal Intelligencer.
- Elisa M.T. Basnight has been selected to serve on the Pennsylvania in the Arts Advisory Panel by The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance.
- Ibie Adeyeye, an associate in the Labor and Employment practice, was recently selected as a member of Arlington County's 17-member Equal Employment Opportunity Advisory Commission. Adeyeye's appointment, which officially begins September 13, 2008, was announced by the office of Mary Hynes, one of Arlington County's five-person board members.

- John A. (Jack) Barbour was unanimously chosen by the firm's shareholders as CEO-elect. At the end of CEO Thomas L. VanKirk's term in June 2009, Barbour will take the reins as CEO.
- Christopher J. Dalton was appointed as vice chair of the New Jersey Supreme Court District V-A Ethics Committee for 2008-2009. In that role, he will be responsible for coordinating ethics hearings in the district, which encompasses Newark and surrounding areas. His one-year term begins September 1, 2008.
- Keith R. Solar has been selected as a San Diego County Top Attorney 2008. Solar was selected by his peers from more than 600 nominations to be among the best in San Diego’s legal community. He will be featured in a special July 16, 2008, edition of The Daily Transcript, titled "Top Attorneys 2008," as well as online at sddt.com.
- The Supreme Court of New Jersey has appointed Rosemary J. Bruno to a three-year term as statewide chair of the New Jersey Committee on Character. The appointment was effective July 1, 2008. Rosemary has been a member of the committee since 1996 and has served on the statewide panel since 2005.
- Patent litigation attorney Susan M. Dadio was elected secretary of The Bar Association of the District of Columbia (BADC). Dadio's term as secretary of the BADC will be for one year. She was officially sworn in at the BADC Annual Luncheon, which occurred on Tuesday, June 17.

Corzine appointed Ms. Henifin to the Board, and her appointment was approved by the State Senate in November, after a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
